Lapatinib (INN), used in the form of lapatinib ditosylate (USAN) (trade names Tykerb and Tyverb marketed by Novartis) is an orally active drug for breast cancer and other solid tumours. It is a dual tyrosine kinase inhibitor which interrupts the HER2/neu and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathways. It is used in combination therapy for HER2-positive breast cancer. It is used for the treatment of patients with advanced or metastatic breast cancer whose tumors overexpress HER2 (ErbB2).
Read the full article on WikipediaMetastatic (Stage IV) HER2 positive breast cancer Clinical criteria: Treatment Phase: Continuing treatment Patient must have received an initial authority prescription for this drug for this condition, AND The treatment must be in combination with capecitabine, AND Patient must not develop disease progression while receiving PBS-subsidised treatment with this drug for this condition, AND The treatment must be the sole PBS-subsidised anti-HER2 therapy for this condition, AND The treatment must not be used in a patient with a left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of less than 45% and/or with symptomatic heart failure. A patient who has progressive disease when treated with this drug is no longer eligible for PBS-subsidised treatment with this drug. The treatment must not exceed a lifetime total of one continuous course.
