treatment of hypertension
improve survival following myocardial infarction in clinically stable patients with left ventricular dysfunction, manifested as an ejection fraction less than or equal to 40%
reduce the incidence of overt heart failure, and subsequent hospitalisations for congestive heart failure in these patients
treatment of heart failure
treatment of diabetic nephropathy in patients with Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

Rash occurred in 3.8 per cent of patients with normal renal function and 13.1 per cent of patients with evidence of prior renal functional impairment
Hypotension occurs in about 2% of patients
Taste Disturbances (Dysgeusia) 1.6 per cent of patients receiving 150 mg or less or captopril per day developed a diminution or loss of taste perception
Sleep disorders are common adverse reactions (1-10% of patients)
Cough has been reported in 0.5-2% of patients in clinical trials of captopril

Contraindications

A history of previous hypersensitivity to captopril (captopril) or any of the excipients (see Section 6.1 List of excipients).
Pregnancy (see section 4.6 Fertility, Pregnancy and Lactation - Use in Pregnancy).
Patients with a history of hereditary and/or idiopathic angioedema or angioedema associated with previous treatment with an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor.
The concomitant use of captopril oral solution with aliskiren-containing products is contraindicated in patients with diabetes mellitus or renal impairment (GFR < 60 ml/min/1.73 m2) (see section 4.5 Interactions with Other Medicines and Other Forms of Interactions and 5.1 Pharmacodynamic properties).
